Review #49: A fantastic cigar. Smooth, sweet, tangy, earthy and leathery. This cigar has it all. If it had a little more strength, it would be absolutely perfect. - Submitted by Jimbo on May 30, 2007
Review #48: A really really really good cigar. Smoke it and be happy. - Submitted by spawn on May 16, 2007
Review #47: The 898 is a regal cigar that disguises it's true full-bodied nature by taking you on a complex and refined ride of flavors. I have nothing but high regard for this cigar. Box Code: FEB 06. The first third started out like an old friend with the classic Partagas spice out of the gate layered with rich leather. The spice yielded a bit to an undertone of cocoa bean and a clean, nutty taste. Beautiful thick and creamy smoke and a nice grey ash. At the start of the second third the pepper took the backseat to a regal earthy flavor and Prince of Wales tea with a dab of cream. Lingering underneath seemed to be the black cherry flavor that I seem to find in the Short. After being lulled and mesmerized by the complexity of the middle third, the partagas spice once again took center stage in the home stretch along with a burnt wheat toast flavor. At this point the earthiness and the Prince of Wales tea served as great complimenting undertones. While the cream aspect was lost towards the end, stepping into its place was a light, fruity, almost citrus finish. I have nothing but praise for this cigar. It is rich, flavorful, full-bodied, and should be a welcome edition to anyone's humidor. I can only dream about what these will develop into with age. - Submitted by jakebarnes on May 16, 2007
Review #46: Cuba at its best. I think this cigar has few rivals, it really has set a standard over the years and, together with the Lusitanias, built what we today recognize as the classic Partagas taste: strong spice, cedar, pepper. The evolution is grand, magnificent, just like the stately walk of a king. Truly a first class smoke. - Submitted by sasha on April 24, 2007
Review #45: Whoever wrote the introduction, "that latest production has made quite milder", obviously hasn't tried an '06 yet. After years of rather lackluster performance, in 2006 the 898V returns with a vengeance. This cigar has loads of rich Partagas spice, layered on a wood and leathery core, with enough white and crushed black pepper to grab your attention and hold it for an hour and a half! The quality of the smoke is thick and creamy. There is also a light, but sweet citrus note on the finish that helps to balance the peppery spice. Oh, the construction, burn and draw are just perfect. The best 898V since 1998; I can only imagine what classics these will be in a few years. - Submitted by shrink on April 15, 2007
