Review #11: A superior- albeit extremely aggressive- cigar featuring a predominantly woody flavour, with notes of cocoa emerging towards the end. In its strength it could overwhelm even experienced smokers in certain circumstances (empty stomach, etc.), and should not be chosen frivolously. - Submitted by Kopeck Freiherr Von Balk on December 27, 2004

Review #10: The varnished Partagas 898 is my absolute favorite medium gauge cigar. It is possibly the most opulent-tasting cigar. The first few draws may be a little hard on the throat if you smoke it in the morning though due to its richness. I submitted the previous review (#7) in error. That one was for the unvarnished version. Varnished 8-9-8s are now in short supply. - Submitted by tang on November 2, 2004

Review #9: This cigar struck a good balance of strength and flavour. Top notch aromas added to the overall enjoyment. Pure Partagas for those that like the character. - Submitted by Stacks Overflow on October 29, 2004

Review #8: I have only been smoking cigars for a short while but I truly enjoy these cigars. I am halfway through a cabinet of ten purchased for me in Cuba. I find them full of flavor and aroma without being too harsh. They make me wish I had discovered this pleasure years ago. - Submitted by CHLuc on September 27, 2004

Review #7: Maybe my box is too young, but I found this cigar quite boring as there really wasn't much wallop even at the end. The construction and draw is top notch. I would include the 8-9-8 in the arsenal but only as an occasional rotation candidate. - Submitted by tang on September 6, 2004
