Smooth and creamy from the first draw. The creamiest cigar I ever had, and also one of the best. I tasted cocoa, vanilla, and cream. The complex flavors commanded my attention for several hours. APR 99 I would like to start my first cigar review with my favourite, the Esplendidos. I am not a snob but happened to be lucky when in 2001 a Cuban student dancegroup visited my hometown for a summer workshop. One day 2 of the girls came in my shop and asked me if I smoked. I thougt they were looking for one of our famous coffeeshops but no, they were offering Cuban tobacco. They were cute and I bought all they carried and paid the price they asked. During the next couple of days I bought a total of 10 boxes, all Esplendidos. 2 boxes were mediocre but smokeable, rustic cigars, obviously no standard Cohiba's but still acceptable for the price I payed. 1 of the boxes included the best cigars I ever smoked (and finished way too soon...) The rest were real and fresh, stamped EL CCUA (04/99) and ECA JUN00. I live in an old canal house from 1696 and I stored them in a built-in closet beneath the stairs, a natural humidor having a relative moisture content of about 70%. During the following years I smoked a few, but the last years not much, busy with work, you know how it goes. This year I turned 50 and, allthough I'm still in prime shape, decided to quit inhaling (cigarette) tobacco. I turned to my remaining stash of Esplendidos and have been smoking a few every week since. They have matured very nicely. What the Chinese Cigar Guru says is true: aging not only improves the taste but also helps the draw; even no problem with the tightly rolled El Laguito's which used to draw hard when young. At about 10 years old they are still very strong, but the strenght is (at least for 2 thirds) disguised by the perfect balance with the very very nice and strong vanilla (and cinnamon) flavours. The last third becomes very strong, but very agreable with a sip of old cognac. The vanilla of the cognac mixes very nicely with the vanilla of the cigar and seems to restore the balance. For the first 2 thirds however I prefer a simple glass of wine. The Esplendidos always give me a very pleasant and relaxed high which lasts till the next morning. I smoked one of these a couple of weeks ago and I have been thinking about it ever since. I know there have been some concerns over consistency and quality of these smokes but the one I had the other day was truely and amazing smoke. It has a tight draw to it but anything worth having is worth working for right?? It's a great smoke, nice and smooth, perfect burn and ash. Classic Cohiba taste that has a little more to it than I thought it would. Wonderful smoke. - Submitted by mmack067 on July 6, 2009

I got one of these for $20 US. I was not very impressed. It had initial leathery deep flavors, but zero finish. Interesting flavor with slight complexity but zero kick. In my opinion, Cohiba is just not as quality as R&J, Bolivar, Hoyo de Monterrey, El Rey Del Mundo or Partagas.
