I am confident now that this is the cigar that habanos uses to train novice rollers, and it makes perfect sense. Give them a small cigar, a straightforward size to roll, and that so many will be made that the substandard units can be thrown in evenly into random boxes. It is for this reason that I believe the "1 out of 4" throwaway sticks are not an accident. In my latest box of 25, code MCS NOV 2005, I tested this theory and found it to hold true. It is easily repeatable without even smoking the cigars. Simply take out the top row in the box and lay out the 13 cigars one by one. Notice the difference in the ring guages, anywhere from about 40-44, so obviously visually inconsistent. Then, give each a gentle squeeze at the foot. Sure enough, 2 are as hard as a baseball bat, 7 are firm with a slight spring, and 4 I would consider loosely rolled. THIS CANNOT BE AN ACCIDENT. I have smoked literally hundreds of this cigar and have tossed more of these for draw problems than any other make and vitola cigar ever. HOWEVER, these are my favorite all time cigar. How can I say this after the tirade above? Because of the flavor. This cigar is a perfect example of why Cuba cannot be beat by any other country. No one yet can replicate or even approach the Montecristo twang, the old school Habano taste. Not even the best of the best from DR and Nicaragua taste like this. The quality of the tobacco used in these cigars is first rate, better even than that used in larger Monte sizes like the #3. Don't believe me? Smoke them back to back. Why, then, do they choose to use some of the best quality tobacco in these cigars? The answer is simple IMO. To keep us buying boxes of this cigar knowing full well that each box contains 3-5 cigars that are all but unsmokeable. Habanos can use all of their rejects and no one complains because the other cigars taste so good. So, I continue to purchase boxes.................... - Submitted by peteando on April 27, 2006

This cigar is excellent. I bought a box of 25 and love it. It was my first cuban and was happy with the transition. The problem was the draw. Some of the cigars provided a draw that were 10's. I'm surprised by the low average rating. I'd give the Monte #4 a rating of 9, as the only problem is it's occasional draw problems, with perhaps one stick in four. In my experience, that's no worse than with most other Cuban cigars. - Submitted by carld on April 11, 2006

i just received a box (EAM mar 05 ) and couldnt keep out of it. it was my sons first cuban , and he was amazed even being green it was all there.from the start, creamy turning to spice, leather , cedar , and a touch of sweetness at the end. there was 2 problems , his was plugged, but a poker solved that. next both cigars had to be relit 4 times. i attribute this to improper storage , or being young . ive put the rest to sleep and will awaken these little gems in 12 months . creamy, well balanced, spicy, and theyll only get better mmmmmmm . a must try for all. - Submitted by tony t. on April 6, 2006

i recently have aquired about 3 boxes of the monticristo No.4 cigars...i have smoked a couple and wasnt overly impressed..i found that the rolling quality wasnt the best and they didn't always burn the same...i dont know much about cigars but out of all the cuban cigars i have, these are probably one of my least favorite - Submitted by davemanm on March 30, 2006
