Review #16: I smoked this one on a “whisky- and cognac tasting evening” we recently held. I really enjoyed this cigar, which strangely enough became smoother and smoother while smoking (usually it’s the other way around). It’s a cigar of perfect construction with a good draw and flawless burn. It is not the most complex stick out there, but I wouldn’t call it flat either. I couldn’t recognize any sweetness in it, it’s mostly spice, coffee, cacao and maybe some leather. This cigar was not the center of attention that evening and because of it’s easiness, it doesn’t need to be. Enjoy it while tasting and discussing a glass of good cognac. - Submitted by Bolivar on July 25, 2005

Review #15: A good reliable cigar, the outer wrapper was a little uneven but an excellent draw, burn and aroma made up for this. Full flavoured but a little one dimensional in complexcity.... med bodied, sweet, spicy and pleasing to the nose. I Would smoke these again.... good value for money. - Submitted by skid11 on March 20, 2005

Review #14: Box codes ARA NOV 02, purchased from HONGKONG, what a true classic. I recently ran my own head to head blind test against a Montecristo no 4, and there is no doubt who the winner is. It is the diplomatico. My wife removed the bands from each one that she randomly selected from my walk in humidor. The diplo code is ARA NOV 02, the monty is DEC 04. The construction is similar between the 2, this is the only similarity they share. The flavors and aromas of the diplo put the monty to shame. The money is riddled with amonia from the very first puff to the last puff. The amonia aroma at times is quite a distraction from enjoyment. I guess if the monty were aged as long as the diplo then maybee just maybee there would be a fair comparasome. however this is not the case. The diplo has an almost musty aroma, (similar to a well aged HUPMANN), I have hupmann no 2 from a 2000 production runs, well back to the comparison, the diplo just over shadows the monty in all categories, aroma, flavor, burn, and aftertaste. The diplos even have that ever so elusive twang that is prevelant in every well aged monty. So in conclusion if you want to smoke your no 4's now then the diplo is a hands down winner, if you want to buy 5 or 10 boxes of the montys and put them away for a few years, then this is the way to go. I have some Monty no 4's from 2000 and 2001 production runs and the diplos from 02 are very similar if not identicle, however the montys still have that unremarkable flavor and aroma that only a well aged monty can provide. - Submitted by yesta grande on March 9, 2005

Review #13: Purchased 2 more boxes ARA NOV02, what a classic, square pressed in the box,the wrappers oily and shiny dark liquid chocolate. The prelight aromas are truly classic cuban, stong well aged tobacco, entwined around a core of strong espresso (italian), freshly shaved swiss dark chocolate, vanilla as if stripped from the stalk, sugary and honey overtones, and the classic cuban twang, much better than the boxes of monty no 4 from 04 production runs. Once these age at 65% they will only improve to vintage classic status, i just ordered 4 more boxes with the ARA NOV 02 codes. - Submitted by bigyesta on February 25, 2005

Review #12: Just received 2 boxes ARA NOV 02, the wrappers are flawless dark chocolate, very smooth and oily. Construction is top notch. These even look better than the last few boxes of monty no 4 i received. The flavors and aromas are similar to monticristo, however they could not be more different. The overall flavor and aroma are quite unique, the classic cuban twang is here along with some powerfull flavors of dark espresso and dark swiss chocolate. The classic monty flavors are here however they are turned up a few notches, the aroma of very strong tobacco that is very well aged dominates the flavors. With these being relativly unknown they are a real treat as compared to monty,s. I just ordered 2 more boxes. - Submitted by bigyesta on February 15, 2005
