Review #36: --- 21 Another try, another disappointement. This time with a special Tauromaquia edition Juan Belmonte Wide Churchill. It is totally unaceptable that top vitolas of the brand should be just average cigars. RyJ cannot keep on like this, with mediocre cigars as their representative vitolas. The big issue is allways the same: a bland flavour, without any of the sweetness that should define the premium RyJ cigars. - Submitted by Heinrich on March 13, 2022

Review #35: APR 21 People often mention these taste "watered-down". Well, that's because they are. Like many extra wide gauge formats, they bulk up the gauge with excess volado simply to make a huge cigar. But many blends, especially these RyJ blends, do not require so much volado. In fact, the RyJ Churchill blend could be reduced to more of a 44 ring gauge, max, to accentuate the flavours properly. This fashion now of everybody only wanting fat cigars is causing producers/blenders to add so much volado to bulk up the gauge that they are literally watering down the flavour intensity and potential complexity of even delicate blends like this one. The Short Churchill is superior because it contains less volado leaf and showcases the actual blend properly. While I smoke plenty of robustos and pyramides, I actually believe that most cigar blends would be better kept under a 50 ring gauge, on the whole. Especially Cuban blends. Many non-Cuban blends, Nicaraguan etc, can need bulking out with more volado because the tobaccos used are so strong, harsh and spicy and need softening up. That is not the case with most Cuban tobaccos and the fashion for fatter and fatter cigars is doing an injustice to the art of blending a lot of the time. Often, slimmer gauges are more focused, intense and complex because they're blended exactly for the flavour profile of the given tobaccos used, not bulked out for the sake of it to fit a wide gauge fashion statement. - Submitted by J. Review #34: SEP 18 Big fan of the RYJ Churchill and short Churchill. I bought a 10 box of the wides just to see if they’re box worthy. Still young yet, smoking cigar 4/10. Fantastic draw and beautiful wrapper, but nowhere near as flavorful as the short and regular Churchill. The classic RYJ flavors seam diluted and distant. Gonna keep an open mind and give these more time, but as of right now, no. - Submitted by Gpayne on February 2, 2022
