Review #13: Hola. I have to agree with Franz-Eric (review 11): Some 2008 batches of this Magnum 50 are a completely disaster, poorly rolled, underfilled with a poor blend. Seems someone in Habanos wants to 'kill' the H Upmann prestige accepting a Worldwide distribution of bad cigars from the Magnum 50 series and Magnum 46 tubed series. I don't know why these cigars passed the well annonunced 'Quality Control Department'. I felt so bad in a Pasion Habanos Spanish presentation of Magnum 50 and almost all cigars were in bad conditions, imagine the face of the Habanos staff present at the event. --- 08 Tried two of these sticks from a recent batch. I don't remember the month, but I did see "08" under the box. (Usually, I bring a pad & pen with me when shopping for singles). Got them from a trusted source, who carries only cubans acquired through official channels, i.e., almost straight from Habanos s.a. So we must presume that this batch was not a counterfeit. These wannabe cigars were way underfilled. As a result, the smoke was much too dense and irritating. The underfilled stogies that I had the displeasure of smoking in the past tended to produce little smoke, but not this one. Poor mouthfeel - just a buccal overkill. Of course, the draw was too loose, and the erratic burning kept me busy with the lighter. Got fed up half way thru on both occasion. In fact, the second stick showed signs of severe malfunctions soon after the last third, and started to unravel before the second half. Threw it out the window to end my misery. It is hard to appraise with any accuracy the quality of the blend, since the construction left so much to be desired. Nevertheless, and sadly, I did taste honest flavours that could have contributed to a decent experience with better quality control. The reviews on this site make me think older batches might be better than this one. Maybe the next ones will improve. JUN 08 Εμφανισιακά ρέπει προς τη μεγαλοπρέπεια και την επίδειξη (μακρύ και χοντρό). Ακούστηκαν και γράφτηκαν πολλά «ταρατατζούμ», και κάποιοι βιάστηκαν να το παρομοιάσουν με εκείνο το θεϊκό LE του 2005. Ιεροσυλία! Οι Δυτικές Ινδίες δεν είναι πάντα η Αμερική. Εμένα μου θύμισε εκείνη την πανέμορφη, βαρετή και πανάκριβη φλατιά, του Trinidad Robusto Extra. Είναι και τούτο το πούρο όμορφο και καλοφτιαγμένο, αλλά μόνο εκεί που γίνεται Robusto ξυπνάει κάπως και μου κάνει ένα «κλικ». Είναι ένα πούρο που σίγουρα θα αγαπήσουν οι USA aficionados, όταν σε λίγο πέσουν τα τείχη, γιατί συνδυάζει όνομα, μέγεθος, φρου-φρου δαχτυλίδια και ευκολία καπνιστική. Αλλά δεν έχει γωνίες συναγωνιστές, υπόγεια μυστικά, ξαφνικές ριπές πουρολαγνείας και αρωματικές ανατροπές. Λυπάμαι γι αυτόν το νέο, που ξεκινάει γυμνός το ταξίδι του, αλλά όπως κάθε νέος έχει κι αυτός τις πιθανότητες του να γίνει κάτι πραγματικά σπουδαίο, όταν ενηλικιωθεί και ωριμάσει. Φοβάμαι όμως, μήπως τώρα που το πούρο θα μπει σε λίγο στο παγκόσμιο μαγαζί, μήπως λέω, χαθεί εκείνη η κουμπάνικη η μαγεία, η αλχημεία η μυστική, που θέλει ρε παιδί μου και τα «τείχη» της να πούμε. Ας είναι! Οι Αβάνες θα πέσουν όπως και οι Καρχηδόνες. Την ιστορία τη γράφουν οι νικητές. Όμως, ακόμα και τώρα που οι Φιντέληδες ραμολίρανε και οι καμπάνες του San Cristobal βαράνε στο ηλιοβασίλεμα, διαλαλώντας σ’ όλο το ουράνιο μπλε θαύμα αυτήν την καλπάζουσα χαρμολύπη της αλλαγής, τώρα λέω, πέρα κει στη Vuelta Abajo, όλο και κάποιος παππούς θα πάρει τον εγγονό του και θα του ψιθυρίσει το μεγάλο μυστικό. Κι εκείνος, χωρίς να καταλαβαίνει ακόμα, θα το βάλει μέσα του, θα το κάνει φυλαχτό. Μέχρι που θα ξημερώσει πάλι, μέχρι που στις Hoyos, θα ξαναφυσήξει εκείνο το παλιό παγανιστικό καλοκαιρινό αεράκι.
