Por Larranaga Panetelas Review:

This cigar can be described as the mildest among Por Larranaga offer, with a pleasant and refreshing taste. It was discontinued in the year 2002

Review #62: I've been alternating between this Por Larranaga and Rafael Gonzalez Perlas. Both quality small cigars. RG a little milder and smoother the PL stronger. Still smoking from the same box from June of 2018 (see review 58). They have aged well. A little bloom and a little fuller body - almost strong and mellowed a bit. Not harsh, nor complex, just bold. It has improved with age. I would buy more if I could find them. A quality budget friendly cigar. - Submitted by hoodlum on October 1, 2022

Review #61: MAR 19 Box code GOS MAR 19. Purchased 2 boxes boxes right after they were discontinued. I’ve smoked 20 so far. Lovely, mild, elegant flavors. Easy morning smoke or any time of the day. Easy to pair with anything. Not much transition but that’s to be expected with a tripa corta. Unfortunately, every single one has a plug in the middle of the stick. I have a draw tool so that’s not an issue for me yet it is consistently plugged. - Submitted by Ravsta94 on March 9, 2021

Review #60: MAY 17 A lot of the filler ends up in your mouth due to overpacking, and the cigar is just too mild for me. I do not recommend this cigar. There are many other choices out there for the same price. - Submitted by mfreedman@roadrunner.com on September 17, 2020

Review #59: FEB 18 Following from my review #57, I went deep and got 4 boxes. They arrived and were all coded REG FEB 18. Big mistake getting 4 boxes at once. The key problem ... all of these productions are over filled right in the very centre of each PLP cigar - so its very difficult to use the PerfectDraw drilling tool to unlock knots from either head or foot. Yes I experimented heavily with different drilling approaches - it just doesn't work for the REG FEB 18s. Suspect they farmed out the rolling of these cheapies to some Level 2 roller to cut their teeth on...and they did, badly. If you spot any 2018 production PLPs, I recommend CAUTION!!! Very very tight draw. Now that's out of the way, I must say these cigars are salvageable - by way of a trick which cost me 2 cigar dissections to figure out. The trick is to simply "unzip the jacket" by taking off the wrapper (only) from the band down. Yes read that again - WRAPPER OFF FROM THE BAND DOWN ONLY. From here, you can carefully massage and loosen the middle of the cigar for airflow to resume, without the cigar completely falling apart. With this new technique, I've been able to smoke through 7 sticks so far (after initially wasting the first 2 in frustration, then 2 more in dissections). I normally would not bother reviewing a crap cigar but the PLP is not crap, just suffered from production problems in 2018 and additionally, someone reading this in future can benefit from my discovering the "jacket unzipping" technique. I am grading them a 5 which I think is a fair reflection on the 2018 productions out of the REG factory. - Submitted by chngster on September 10, 2019

Review #58: JUN 18 Very nice cigar for the price. Reasonably dark wrapper, few if any large veins and no discoloration. nicely rolled, reasonably firm. Pleasant prelight aroma. Nice robust, earthy tobacco smell. Easy light. Nice even burn and stayed lit. Did not give off a large amount of smoke and a fairly hard draw due to narrow ring gauge. Not complex, a little harsh at first but resulted in a nice medium strong smoke & the little bit of harshness subsided. A very good value at 3.50 USD per. Only complaint, love this in a bigger format like a petit robusto to get an easier draw and more relaxing smoke. But this is a good value cigar. One of the best. - Submitted by hoodlum on October 6, 2018
