Review #21: You expect a refined cigar when it looks this visually stunning. I was excited to try this beautiful looking cigar as it was gifted to me by a friend (Hoyopr in the cigar community). The first few draws were not memorable. The first third was very disappointing as the ammonia was overpowering. This cigar was too young to smoke. Furthermore, the draw was a little tight for my liking. A cigar of this gauge will do well with a little under-humidification. Fortunately, this particular Especial was just that. I cannot imagine how tight the draw would have been like had it been over-humidified. I stuck with the cigar and I'm glad I did. The aroma is very complimentary to the flavours and almost necessary, which isn't always the case for all cigars. If Montecristos are the dry martinis of Cubans, then the Monte Expecial No. 2 is the juniper berry of the brand. I had always thought Montecristos had a very dry flavour, and the Especial is a great example of this. I haven't experienced a cigar that is much like a juniper berry but this was unusual and pleasant. The cigar started mild and worked it's way up to medium. The draw improved after the first half. Slight leather notes but a very pronounced sweetness - very honey-like. The burn was razor sharp. The construction was flawless. Deductions for poor draw in the first half, and strong ammonia in the first third. In conclusion, the Especial does deliver in expectations for a refined cigar. Unfortunately, I had expected a more full bodied cigar from this smaller ring gauge, but that is no fault of the cigar's. - Submitted by cookj1 on October 2, 2008

Review #20: A lovely, smooth smoke that lasted well past the hour. I tried my first one today at my cigar bar after reading these reviews. I found it very light in the first third, more complex flavours in the second along with an increase in smoke, and some beautiful, deep flavours in the third (apologies for my poor descriptions) and a mild nicotine rush. I tried to put this down but - 'just one last draw'... 9/10 - Submitted by andrewshere on July 23, 2008

Review #19: Very good one! Had 2 boxes of them and was continuously pleased with this stick. Good draw - even with its problematic format. Quite sweet for a MC. Creamy. In my opinion within the top 3 Montecristos. (Very good in combination with a p.m espresso) - Submitted by Fidelito on June 30, 2008

Review #18: NOV 04 Really couldn't describe the one I enjoyed today much differently then reviewer #16. An outstanding cigar and the second from this code. - Submitted by randallp on May 26, 2008

Review #17: I bought a box last year and tried one several days after receipt of the box. It was so green and harsh I threw half of it way. Tried another six months later and it had improved with age but was still anything but spectacular. - Submitted by Gregg Miller on May 11, 2008
