Review #13:

Received a box of 25 for free, won a weekly drawing. The packaging was impressive, the varnished cabinet was packed in a cardboard box with a cuban warrenty seal applied at the cut in the box. The date was stamped on the bottom, from 03. The packaging of the cigars is impeccable 2 sheets of wax paper wrap the cigars. Then they are tied with a yellow silk ribbon and stacked 8-9-8 in the cabinet. The fit of the cabinet is perfect with very little room for the cigars to move in the cabinet. The aromas are unreal on the first opening of the cabinet, warm cuban cedar is the first aroma, then perfectly strong tobacco is the next scent, finished off with a pepper and cinnamon aroma. The pre light aromas are classic partagas The first light puff reveals a true classic, well aged tobacco nuances, mixed with freshly shaved chocolate, and ground espresso beans. The cost value of 250.00 USD is a bit high, but for a cigar of this callaber it is well worth it. I placed the whole bundle wribbon still on into the humidor, on the bottom shelf for long term aging. As i am writing this review i decided to light another, just as good as the one yesterday, even a bit more pronounced well aged tobacco flavors, come thru, with a tinge of saltieness. A superior- albeit extremely aggressive- cigar featuring a predominantly woody flavour, with notes of cocoa emerging towards the end. The varnished Partagas 898 is my absolute favorite medium gauge cigar. It is possibly the most opulent-tasting cigar. The first few draws may be a little hard on the throat if you smoke it in the morning though due to its richness. I submitted the previous review (#7) in error.
