AUG 03 I've been working through a cab of 50 from 2003. Consistently oily, dark, dense sticks. A whiff of the wrapper and foot yields strong musky odors. The slightly tight draw becomes, after lighting, perfectly matched to the strength of the cigar. Massive deep cedar and exotic woody tastes and aromas, suggestions of old leather, a hint of honey tones. All these rich, full flavors grow progressively stronger as smoked. Very little pepper or spice and doesn't need them. Burn is usually very even with a light-gray ash and darker crownings. I relish the De Dieux late-nights with a neat scotch or rum in the other hand. I've even been known to light up a second one after burning my fingers on the first. - Submitted by cpubiz on August 6, 2008

MAR 03 This seems to be the cigar for me right now. Great construction, tremendous reliable tast changes and easy to find. I am not a big Hoyo fan, but do love these sticks. I think the HdM DC is weak and without much taste, but these have a tremondous sweet woodlike taste that I find enjoyable on my lips long after the cigar has been smoked to the finger burning stage. At first cutting the cigar you can sense that the draw will be good or slightly tight by giving it an un-lit pull. After lighting, the smoke takes a few minutes to develope some character which begins with a flavor of tasty smoked wood and leather. As it developes, a sweeter butterscotch like taste emerges which lingers for quite a while. You can find more expensive smokes, but very few taste and burn as well as the Hoyo des Dieux. DEC 03 A very enjoyable light bodied Havana. These have aged delicately developing a dusty flavour of sweet woods and honey with some herbal notes. They need to be smoked slowly or overheating can occur easily. If smoked slowly they are very enjoyable with a good draw and a very even burn. Light-medium flavour and body. It's the final third which kicks it up a notch but soon becomes tarry. The ones I have are all rolled well and the example smoked was done so only two days after arrival in the post, so a few months careful storage should improve them further. - Submitted by A. This is an amazing cigar, perhaps the best among other Corona Grandes. It is cheaper but much better than Siglo III. You'll admire the perfect construction and the symphony of flavours it delivers. It is the best Hoyo has to offer, so make sure you try this one, particularly if you enjoy the mild but complex smoke this brand offers. - Submitted by akinci13 on March 21, 2008
