Review #22: JUL 07 I tried a couple Escudos EL07 from this box a year ago and liked them. After maturing them a year, they are even better. This stick is bumpy and the wrapper leaf is like old faded red velvet. It has its own special beauty. The draw and burn are faultless. Good woody and tobacco flavors with some remaining youthful tannics from the start. Beyond the second half, very big full flavors of earth, bread, and tingling pepper continue to grow, yet without becoming harsh or bitter. Very satisfying after dinner. Expect a score of 10 after an additional year or two of aging. - Submitted by cpubiz on December 19, 2008

Review #21: I love lengthy smokes, and I am shifting from mild to medium strength cigars. This Escudos Edición Limitada 2007, of medium/full strenght, lasted more than two hours, and albeit not perfect, was one of the best cubans I have smoked so far. I was lucky enough to grab one of the last two remaining at the Casa del Habano of Milan, aged more than one year. It felt a bit dryer than others, but I guess it's an ageing effect. The looks and smell were great. After fixing some minor imperfections of the initial combustion, the cigar started burning very evenly. The draw was ok, but not perfect: I prefer a tighter draw, but I guess it could have been a bit easier. The flavour was great: full, creamy, with earthy and woody tones. The smoke was very white and cool, and the ash was quite flaky. The combustion of the second third was amazingly perfect. The flavour became a bit spicier. The last third, though, wasn't as enjoyable as the first two. The draws warmed up faster than I expected, and I had trouble keeping the combustion even and active. I am a slow smoker, and I didn't feel like increasing my pace to keep up with it, so we parted ways, and I left it to its quick death in the ashtray. The aftertaste was an amazing farewell gift: smooth and long lasting. This last note, plus the interesting price, made the defects even less noticeable. Drinks: Ribolla Gialla (sparkly white wine) and sparkly water - Submitted by Kira on December 10, 2008

Review #20: --- 07 Just smoked one. Coffee, bean, cola. A little tight to start, but drew well from the halfway mark on in. I've never done this with a cigar, but i pulled the tip of a tobacco leaf out of the footl. it was 3"by 3" and a beatiffuly oist filler leaf. It looked and smelled just perfect, and I savored the idea of THAT was what i was smoking. Not as sweet as an Upmann double robusto or as woody as a Bolivar Royal Corona or Bellicoso -- but a comparable smoke. - Submitted by archie on September 27, 2008

- Submitted by cipu on September 11, 2008

Review #18: This Escudo is coming from a sample box of five. After three months resting in my humidor it was time to check their performance to see where they are going. It was truly beautiful looking stick with perfect construction and intoxicating smell. The cigars started with flavors of cocoa and ripe cherries, at first on the light side but soon became stronger yet newer too powerful. Regarding their youth I was expecting stronger or even harsh taste but tobacco was very well matured. Over the half way mark, the cigar obtained additional coffee and woody notes and became more full-bodied. All the way to the end smoking was very smooth and well balanced but maybe not as complex as I would like it. I’m not big fan of Limited Editions but Escudos shows great promise and they are ready to smoke right now. - Submitted by Diademo on August 12, 2008
