Review #35: ---   Of all the Montecristo cigars I've smoked in recent years. the No 1 has been the best, apart from the magnificent 'A'. Mostly sourced from Beirut, where they know their cigars, the Monte 1 shares similar rich, complex and very smooth flavours with the A, although a bit less less intense. It's a classic Monte, has always burned evenly with a very fine light grey ash, and has been far more consistent than the many disappointing 2s and 4s I've smoked. - Submitted by winterbee on March 12, 2010

- Submitted by jorjis on November 7, 2009

Review #33: --- 95 My second box of cubans. Pure magic. Very mellow with a finish that went on for days. The post '97 cigars are a joke compared to these. What happened? I think they stopped growing the good stuff and started growing a heartier strain of plant that just tastes bland. Quantity over quality. Too bad for us. - Submitted by Allen on August 28, 2009

Review #32: i hate to give a cigar such a bad review but i have only had a few of these which were good over the past 10 years..during the early 90s these were a great smoke..something has been missing and i cannot smoke this cigar...when these were good they were great but i feel now i would never consider smoking when there are so many other great smokes available just from the Montecristo brand alone - Submitted by sause2112 on July 17, 2009

Review #31: DEC 07 Appearance: This was a beautiful 6 1/2 x 42 cigar with a perfectly flat front and back and ever so slightly rounded sides. The wrapper had some prominent veining but not so bad as to detract from the elegance of this cigar. It had a very nice oily sheen to it. Construction: As I said earlier, this cigar was beautifully done. It was firm the entire length of the cigar with absolutely no soft spots and a beautifully applied cap that cut perfectly before lighting. Draw: The Monte No. 1 one had a less than perfect draw that was even just a little on the tight side. Even so, it gave an ample amount of smoke with each puff. Sometimes as a cigar warms up, the draw will get looser. Not the case with this cigar as it smoked extremely cool down to the very end. Flavor: Just like the aroma, this cigar started off with a very light floral taste. A very clean and refined taste. This lasted for about the first 1/3 of the cigar . From there until the halfway point the taste became more complex with subtle tastes of leather and cocoaalmost a semi-sweet chocolate flavor...another surprise. From the halfway point to the last inch and a half, the flavors became earthy with just a hint of spice . Even at the last 1 1/2 inch left and with smooth measured draws, this cigar never got hot . The nice thing about this cigar was that it was complex without being too complex. It's really nice to have a cigar like this that will consistently give you the flavors you are looking for. Aroma: This was not like any Monte I've had before. This one had a light and sweet floral aromaquite a pleasant change. Ash: This cigar had the typical medium to dark gray ash that Cuban cigars have. A nice firm ash with no flaking that took a pretty good tap to knock off . Final thoughts: Wow...I am totally amazed and impressed with this cigar. It burned perfectly straight so no touching up was required. The feel, aroma, flavors, aroma, ash and burn were everything I look for in a premium hand-made cigar with the only minor flaw was the slightly tight draw. I rate this a 9...I think I have found my favorite Montecristo vitola. - Submitted by jenkinschristopher on June 28, 2009
