This cigar has a perfect ageing potential. Outstanding long panetelas which combines honey and fruity flavours with medium earthyness. The minimum ageing recommended for La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No. 1 is at least four years.

Review #11: I am very much in agreement with the review by agraupe but will add my comments. I smoked this cigar while relaxing by my pool today, enjoying a sunny Florida afternoon. I have had this box for about a year, and I remember that at first I was unimpressed with these cigars, and had even considered selling them off. But I have increasingly come to appreciate them, and today this cigar really hit the spot. I paired this cigar with a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, it was a great combination. This cigar is a little over 5 years old (OSU MAY 02).
It has a beautiful, delicate, floral/sweet smell when cold. I clipped the cap and this thin ring gauged cigar had a nice, medium draw before lighting, and it had a smooth pale wrapper. It burned perfectly throughout and I had no need to correct the burn on this cigar at any time.
Immediately after lighting it up I tasted a great floral, lemon combination, mild and sweet. The first third of this cigar had a wonderful mild, sweet taste. At this point the cigar was reminiscent of a sweet lemon herbal tea with a touch of honey, soothing and relaxing.
During the second third, a rich spiciness was added to the lemon fruitiness of this cigar. The spice flavors were mild and sweet, floral, and grassy, with some kind of cooking spice added in, perhaps a touch of ginger, and I was reminded of times when I was a kid and used to pull the nectar from honeysuckle flowers.
During the final third of this cigar, the intensity of all of the flavors increased, but the spiciness grew, the ginger and lemon combination was superb, and this became a full bodied cigar. The flavors became very intense, and reminded me of a strong lemon grass soup, with ginger and peppers.
What a great cigar. The Medaille d’Or was everything I could ask for in a cigar, moving from mild sweetness to full bodied spiciness. - Submitted by Professor Twain on December 29, 2007
Review #10:  The description above nails it. Working thru a box from '97 and it is a very pleasant mild/medium bodied smoke with hints of fruit/honey/nuts. A very pleasant and relaxing smoke. Review #9: A wonderful day smoke that puts a smile on your face. Excellent construction and draw with hints of fruitiness and spice thrown in in just the right quantities. This would make a wonderful cigar for any new smoker along with the Montecristo No.4.

Review #8: A ten if I've ever smoked one! From a 8-9-8 box, date AGO02. The cigar was slightly spongy to the touch, and looked like a million bucks. It lit very easily, as one might expect of a small ring gauge cigar, and burned spot on the entire time. The draw was moderately firm, just the way it's supposed to be, and the ash, despite flaking off around the edges, held amazingly firm, resisting many an attempt to knock it off. This is a mild cigar, perfect for morning or early afternoon. The first few puffs tasted of exotic wood, and sweet chili peppers. Hints of cocoa also came in short bursts. The aftertaste was amazingly sweet, almost like my mouth was coated with honey. Toward the second third, the pepper flavour picked up very nicely. It was a lovely combination of sweetness and spice. I also tasted some coffee. The final third is what truly made this cigar one to remember. The flavour definitely became stronger, and changed completely. There was a nice, nutty sweetness that hadn't been there previously, which then gave way to rich, wet earth, followed by fruit (plums, maybe?). The last few puffs tasted almost like a very good carrot cake, if you can believe it. Overall, a fantastic cigar. Review #7: A good cigar that ages into a great one. I love this versatile stick. It makes for a perfect day time smoke has an even burn and produces nice thick smoke. Has a surprisingly good draw for thin cigar and generally has a fruity taste though I did get smoke hints of spice in my last smoke. - Submitted by daniyal on August 18, 2007
