Review #22: A classic "new profile" Partagas indeed, but pushed by the sophisticated Vitola. Tasty, strong, starts with typical vanilla bean and develops into woods and spices. Profile comparable to 898 varnished and Shorts. This presumably was an '06, and great already. --- 05 Very good cigar indeed. First tiers I was a bit disapointed though, maybe because the wine I was accompanying this cigar with, was very complex and I found the cigar lacked complexity. Then all of a sudden, it started giving lots and lots of aromas, flushes of liquorice mostly, and also spices and vanilla. An incredible cigar on the last third which was a true firework of aromas, vanilla intensified joined in by the bitter sweet taste of ground coffee along with the liquorice taste still very present. Eventhough I was enjoying this baby outdoors, my leather coat smelled of vanilla cigar this morning which is quite unusual ! I will definitely go again ! - Submitted by kriss on October 3, 2008

JUN 06 In this cigar lie the seeds of greatness. Construction is magnificent, wrapper oily and smooth with few veins. Draw and burn are first-rate. But in my opinion these are not yet ready - still young, tannic, and a bit harsh to my taste. I agree with previous reviewers that the flavors are exquisite. But I think this cigar is still developing, still becoming the masterpeice it promises to be with, perhaps, five years of careful aging. SEP 06 Thus far I've smoked half a cabinet of these, and they have been consistently outstanding - so much so that now I've bought 2 boxes. Don't get me wrong - this is a powerful cigar that should be smoked with caution, lest one's taste buds get badly singed, but I have yet to be disappointed. A slow burning masterpiece with consistently excellent construction (I've had one that was tight, but still smokeable), these give off such a distinctive, rich odor in the humidor that its difficult to smoke anything else. I have found the rich, vanilla core to extend throughout the cigar as it burns down - often present from the beginning of the first tier. Definitely an evening / after dinner cigar, when you can sit down and ponder how a blend of tobacco leaves could possibly give one such rich flavors and aromas. - Submitted by Goldenberg on May 27, 2008

Where do I begin...what an exquisite, intoxicating cigar! I think if I could smoke only one cigar for the rest of my life, this very well may be the one, and I've had quite a few to sample from! Box code GSO SEP06, I just smoked the first of the box with only 3 days in the humidor, and it is one of the best Havanas I've ever had. I can't imagine what more aging will do to this! Very rich, full flavor, perfectly rolled with a consistent rich core of creamy vanilla and leather that got stronger as I gradually smoked this slow burning masterpiece right down to the nub. I'm assuming this cigar isn't as popular as it clearly should be do to its size and availability. Otherwise I can't imagine why I've never come across it before. It is really the embodiment of what I assume is the classic, old-school havana cigar - at least in my own mind. Definitely only smoke this when you have some time on your hands, without distractions so that you can fully appreciate the considerable complexity of the flavor.
