Partagas Presidentes Review:
This hand-made used to be stronger, but some changes took place. Anyhow, it did not decrease much in strength. Smoke plenty of flavours with a minimum ageing recommended of at least four or five years.

Review #12: I only had one of these from a sampler pack I purchased, but I was dying to try one of these cool looking old time cigars. The cigar lit up well and looked nice. The wrapper was a bit light and the smoke was ok. The flavor was lighter then I expected and it did not really taste soo great. I'm sure if this cigar was aged for at least a year it would have tasted better. So to me it was fair. I will try a few more before I reach a real conclusion. - Submitted by nnjlon2 on April 9, 2008
Review #11: Being the very few hand-made perfecto, one will appreciate the effort for Partagas to revive the traditional vitola. Tried one recently and found it not as good looking as Cuaba's cigars. Its taste started to gain momentum a few minutes after lighting it. This may be caused by the shape. Undoubtedly, it is a great cigar which is professionally constructed. Review #10: From the second of three boxes purchased at the Ciego de Avila airport duty free, five years ago. All with the same box code, OSU-VC-1. Most likely means Oct. '98, with the N from NO (10 = Oct.) being dropped.
This is the last surviving vitola of the old-time hand-made perfectos, formerly equal in production with the now dominant straight shaped parejos.
Of course, the perfecto shapes have been revived with the Cuaba line, but with a more modern taste profile.
Back in the 40's, the Partagas Presidentes, with the 8-9-8's, were the brand's top of the line cigars.
These are difficult, even frustrating, cigars, clearly not intended for inexperienced or casual smokers.
To start with, they have to be clipped to at least a 40 ring gauge opening, to get a good draw. Also, due to their very compact structure, they will not draw well if over humidified.
With the tiny opening at the head, they are very easy to light, but it takes a while to get any smoke flowing. Some patience and a little effort is required to get it properly and evenly burning. Once well under way, the first third is rather light flavoured and herbaceous. Pleasant, but not terribly exciting. Then it really starts picking up momentum. By the mid-point, it's a very strong cigar, rich in old-school Partagas taste. The aroma is now also heavy and powerful. Heading into the final third, the cigar is almost overwhelming. The Partagas earthiness and pepper now dominate. The strength seems to increase with every puff. With an inch and a half to go, the lips burn and the head swirls. I've taken it as far as I can go.
It's easy to understand why this cigar gets such mixed reviews, especially by cigar magazines that rate only current releases. Having smoked a box and a half of these 98's over the last five years, I can safely say that they are just beginning to enter their maturity.
While the bitterness of youth is gone, they are still a wild ride. Maybe when they reach 10-12 years old, they will start to be domesticated, and trade some of their brute force for increased finesse. Review #8: This was a very good cigar.The draw was a bit tight until it got past the small part,the it opened up,but not as nice as I would have liked.Woody and earty with a dash of pepper at the start.Then it got creamy and leathery after the first half.Nice smooth finish.Definently recommended. - Submitted by afuentelover on May 21, 2006
