OCT 12 The Davidoff No.1 is a cigar that captivates me every time that I give it a puff. I am fortunate enough to remember the old Cuban-made No.1. Whilst most non-Cuban alternatives never really compare, I would say that the line has actually become a lot better since the move to the Dominican. Overall a wonderful cigar, a little mild but that's only what I expect from a Davidoff cigar. JUN 81 Got three from a cigar auction at Cgarsltd. Tried the first Christmas day. Perfect burn- slightly tight draw. Perfect construction. Very light aroma and taste- primarily traditional Davidoff flavor. Intensified during second half some. This was a 30 year old cigar which I justified paying the hefty price - but overall was a disappointment due to subtleness. - Submitted by neuticles on December 27, 2010

--- 90 Αφού έκοψα την pig tail του με την αγαπημένη μου φτηνιάρικη λαιμητόμο, περιεργάστηκα για λίγο το άψογο ψιλο-claro wrapper και προσπάθησα να πάρω κάτι από το σχεδόν ανύπαρκτο prelight, (λίγο κέδρο μόνο μύριζε), έβαλα φωτιά σε αυτό το καλοδιατηρημένο εικοσάχρονο κομψοτέχνημα, πίνοντας το ένα mojito μετά το άλλο. Έκανε ζέστη, υγρή βαρβάτη βαριά ζέστη, γιατί από ότι φαίνεται αδέλφια, τα μελτέμια σιγά-σιγά αποχαιρετούν τα ολοένα και πιο ζεστά καλοκαίρια μας. Χωρίς να το καταλάβω, το πούρο έφτιαξε μια στάχτη 3,5 – 4 εκατοστά, too much για το ring του. Καύση τέλεια, τράβηγμα εξαιρετικό κι άρχισα να ψάχνω γλώσσα, ουρανίσκο και μύτη, αβίαστα, χαλαρά. Μια λεπτή, παλιά όμορφη γεύση, πολύπλοκη, εναλλασσόμενη και πάνω από όλα ραφινάτη, (δεν έφερνε κάπου κοντά σε κάτι current συγκρίσιμο). Μέλι και κακάο, κανέλλα και ευδιάκριτο φουντούκι, λίγο ξύλο και ελάχιστο μπαχάρι, μίγμα μαστορικό, φίνο και βαρβάτο μαζί. Η ώρα περνούσε κι ενώ φωτογράφιζα σαν τουρίστας τις διάφορες φάσεις του, συνοδεύοντας το προς το τελευταίο του ταξίδι προς το υποκίτρινο δαχτυλίδι, που κάποτε θα πρέπει να ήταν λευκό, αυτό έκαιγε και κόρωνε, έξω και μέσα μου. Και κράτησε αρκετά αυτό το όμορφο και φωτεινό απογευματινό ταξίδι. Μέχρι που οι πρώτες παραγαδιάρικες ψαρόβαρκες ξεμυτίσανε από το λιμάνι για τη νυχτερινή καλάδα, καθώς το φεγγάρι κρυβόταν όλο και περισσότερο, μέχρι να αρχίσει να ξαναγεμίζει για την ολόλαμπρη Αυγουστιάτικη Πανσέληνο. Σίγουρα το καλύτερο κουβανέζικο Davidoff που έχω κάνει ως τώρα. Ένα πούρο που θα μπορούσε να ήταν βιβλίο ή τραγούδι ή ένα μοναχικό αστέρι. Τελειώνοντας, νιώθω την ανάγκη, (και προς αποφυγήν παρεξηγήσεων), μετά από καιρό και εντελώς ταπεινά, να πω κάτι. Δεν είμαι ούτε σνομπ, ούτε μέλος σε κανένα forum για πούρα, (προς το παρόν τουλάχιστον). Πάντως, το ένα το συγκεκριμένο το ελληνικό, το διαβάζω και το αγαπώ, κυρίως τα πρώτα χρόνια τα εφηβικά του. Αλλά και τώρα καλά είναι. Η ζωή είναι ποτάμι που κυλάει. Περνάει κάμπους και βουνά, αλλά όλο και κατεβαίνει και βγάζει προς τη θάλασσα…Εις υγείαν λοιπόν, υμών και ημών αλλά και του μοναδικού, πανωραίου και αιώνιου ελληνικού καλοκαιριού! - Submitted by cipu on August 4, 2010

Review #3:

Recently smoked one of these from '81. The draw was a bit tight which did detract from the overall enjoyment of the cigar. Yet it was definately not without its merit. Complex flavor profile that continualy changed. Denoted honey, cream, hazelnut, light hints of espresso in the finish, even hardwood was present. As noted, there was somethng of a draw issue. Despite this it was a very enjoyable cigar due to the complexities offered in taste. Certainly an expensive cigar, and only the individual smoker can decide whether the experience is worthy of the asking price or not, but whe compard to other cigars of similar age, I believe this one stacks up nicely irrespective of cost. - Submitted by knuck42 on November 21, 2007
