Review #16: Beside a box of Secretos I bought few singles of Magicos and Genios and after few months in humidor I checked Magicos performance. Construction was perfect – very firm, solid, with excellent draw. After no problems with lighting I was immediately surrounded with thick, dens smoke in anticipation of strong aroma and intense flavors. In the contrary, cigar started very mild with tender flavors of cocoa and fruits. It was clear that tobacco was very well matured and properly aged. After while she developed some bolder flavors, with stronger presence of coffee and chocolate. Smoking was still very smooth and relaxing. At the same time burning become a bit uneven but without any effect on smoking performance. I had a feeling that I’m smoking well matured Limited Edition cigar from 2003 or 2004. In the last third became a bit unbalanced and harsh ending indicated that she needs some more time to stabilize. For sure this is exceptional cigar without any parallels with classic Cohiba taste. Question is if this blending and the quality of tobacco will allow Magicos to develop to truly wonderful and rich cigar. I was drinking Rum Santiago de Cuba (Anejo) and they compliment each other perfectly. - Submitted by Diademo on March 31, 2008
- Submitted by haleakala on March 24, 2008
Review #14: with an unusual flavour, scorched earth with leather, cocoa and sweet vanilla, very little spice it's unlike any other cohiba. some may like them, I found it interesting to start with and ultimately revolting, giving up before the last 3rd. I'm glad I only bought 2. I still give it highish marks for the bravery of creating something so weird, but with the resources available to Habanos, and the reputation of Cohiba meaning people go mad for anything new from them, they should have done a lot better than this, or not put it under the cohiba marca. I'm 100% certain this cigar will either be discontinued or more likely change its blend. very few people will want to buy many of these once the novelty wears off. but it's different and intersting, and well made, so it gets some stars. as a final warning, don't buy a box before trying a single. - Submitted by krafty on March 4, 2008
Review #13: Smoked one in Cuba last year, bought it in CDLH, very good taste, but very different taste to what I'm used to. Funny detail, as I was walking alongside the most famous town square in Trinidad, a guy approched me trying to sell a fake box of R&J, sport Largos I think. CIgars looked pretty good fakes, but the box was printed colourfull with very rainbow kinda colours. Looked very cheap, as it turned out, was very cheap too ;-) When I turned him down last thing he said "that fake, that fake". I couldn't help smiling... Maybe he was right? ;-) Seriously, was a good cigar, a bit too heavy for me after a light meal in the afternoon. Still, taste was renewing, and succesfull. A good 9, for me probably would be better to mellow them out for a good 5 years. Haven't bought a box yet, who knows this year in Cuba. - Submitted by Yapi on January 31, 2008
Review #12: For reviewer #11. What I said was that it was NOT acrid. You might expect a young cc to be acrid but this cc is not. I have since smoked another and continue to be impressed by the Maduro line. They have a very unique and sweet, smooth taste with long lasting, enjoyable chocolate, coffee flavors and with age they should develop even more strength and flavor. I do like the Genios a bit more than the Magicos but that may be more related to size than taste. Both are excellent. - Submitted by max on January 24, 2008
